Ellen Pugh's profile
Ellen Pugh is a Senior Policy Adviser for Equality Challenge Unit. She works on a range of projects connected with promoting equality and diversity in higher education, specialising in gender equality including gender identity.
Prior to joining ECU, Ellen Pugh worked as Policy Director for Skill: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities, where she was was responsible for developing and maintaining links with civil servants, politicians and other policy makers to respond to and influence national developments on provisions for disabled students in higher and further education. While at Skill she also undertook consultancy work for organisations including the Training and Development Agency for Schools and Life Long Learning UK and was responsible for Skill's consultation responses.
Ellen also previously worked for the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education where she worked to implement the Learning and Skills Council’s Single Equality Scheme Support Programme; the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where she had responsibility for the development and implementation of equality and diversity policy; and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative where she worked to influence policy development in the Commonwealth and promote the observance of human rights.
Ellen studied at the LSE and the University of Sussex and holds an MSc in Development Management and a BA Honours in International Relations with Development Studies. During her undergraduate degree Ellen worked for a year in South Africa with VSO, where she was involved in the management of social research projects including a nationwide study into violence against women.
