David Williams
Director of Human Resources, Swansea University
David Williams has long experience of working in university personnel management and has been Director of Human Resources at the University of Wales Swansea since 2003. He has a broad knowledge of human resource issues in higher education in the UK and Wales through involvement in national initiatives and regional groups.
With the assistance of colleagues he produced a comprehensive equal opportunities action plan for the university. The plan addressed key areas including statistics and targets, positive action, equal pay, recruitment and selection, work-life balance and dignity at work and many of the proposals are being implemented. Previously to working in the university, he worked in the NHS and for House of Fraser.
He has been a member of the Educational Competencies Consortium Working Group on Job Evaluation, which led to the development of HERA. He was a member of HESA Management Committee from its inception to 1999 during which he contributed to the development of the HESA Staff Record. Currently he is also a member of the Educational Competencies Consortium Management Board.
He lives on Gower and has three children.
