Michael MacNeil

Michael MacNeil is the senior manager responsible for the strategic management of University and College Union within the higher education sector and the regional operational staff. He is nominated to the board as a representative of the five main unions recognised in the sector.

Michael has previously worked as policy director at the Legal Action Group, an organisation working to promote equal access to the justice system. He continued his interest in this field as the Chair of an independent board established by the Big Lottery Fund to oversee a multi-million pound project to improve advice services on a range of social and welfare issues.

Michael also worked for the trade union UNISON in a variety of negotiating and organisational roles, spanning a range of public and private sector employers.
