Professor Tariq S Durrani OBE
Senior Adviser to the Principal, University of Strathclyde
Professor Tariq Durrani has over 20 years of experience in senior management positions in higher education ranging from Head of Department (1986-90) to Deputy Principal (2000-06) at the University of Strathclyde. He is a Council member of the Scottish Higher and Further Education Funding Council, a Director of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the UNESCO Scotland Committee. He has been a Board member of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education since its inception in 2004.
As Deputy Principal he was responsible for staff development, lifelong learning, information technology strategy, the Knowledge Transfer partnership. He spearheaded the team that led Strathclyde, as a whole, to be recognised as an Investor in People (IiP) in 1999. The University has retained the IiP status since.
Tariq has been active in learned societies and professional organisations - currently as Vice President, Royal Society of Edinburgh; (2006-07) President IEEE Engineering Management Society; (1994-95) President IEEE Signal Processing Society.
As Professor of Signal Processing, Professor Durrani has over 300 publications to his name including six books. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the IEEE.
