Scottish Race Equality Network meeting (SREN)

Tuesday 6 June 2017 at University of Dundee from 11.00 to 15.30

SREN is a membership network of equality and diversity practitioners from Scottish higher education institutions with a remit to advance race equality in their institutions.

Supported by ECU, it is a forum for practice sharing amongst institutions. If you wish to attend, please confirm your attendance by visiting ECU’s website.

Resources and support

‘The broken promise of social mobility for Muslims’ research project

Sheffield Hallam University is looking for participants for its research project which aims to better understand why educational gains are not translating into employment gains for young Muslims (defined as those aged under 30).

If you have any involvement in teaching or supporting Muslim students or have a perspective on social mobility, please complete the
university’s survey.

To send the survey directly to your Muslim students please use this link (same survey but it will enable the university to identify students from other respondents).

ECU annual conference 2017

ECU’s two-day conference will be held on Tuesday 7 November and Wednesday 8 November 2017 in Birmingham.

The theme for this year’s conference is inclusivity, intersectionality, action: moving forward the equality agenda in higher education.

This event brings together a cross section of the staff working at different levels and in a range of areas to advance equality and diversity in higher education across the UK.


Attracting and increasing diversity event

Wednesday 7 June 2017, 10.00 – 16.00 at Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh

This cross-institutional event will focus on sharing the progress and learning of attracting diversity in Scotland and increasing diversity projects in England and Wales.

Equality and diversity – opportunities and challenges in HE admissions

Tuesday 20 June 2017, 10.30 – 15.45 at The Studio Birmingham

Bookings are now open for Supporting Professionalism in Admissions’ (SPA) equality and diversity event.

SPA and ECU will reflect on how equality and diversity is supported and considered within higher education admissions and draw on some of the key challenges to prompt group discussion.

The event is open to all staff from colleges and universities involved in admissions, schools and college liaison, student recruitment, equality and diversity and transition.
