Vacancy: Senior Policy Adviser: Gender and gender identity (maternity cover)
1-year fixed-term contract, leading on ECU's gender and gender identity initiatives

Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) works to further and support equality
and diversity for staff and students in higher education across all four
nations of the UK, and in further education in Scotland.
We wish to appoint two Senior Policy Advisers, one to provide fixed-term maternity cover on gender and gender identity equality, and one to lead ECU's work on both religion and belief and sexual
orientation equality. The appointed candidates will work within the
Policy Team.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic and operational leadership on gender and gender identity initiatives, and to work with the policy team on other projects
- Responding
effectively and swiftly to internal and external enquiries from higher
education institutions especially in relation to gender and gender identity
- Preparing and undertaking presentations and facilitating workshops within the higher education sector, and externally
- Develop events and briefings on the specific duties related to the public sector equality duty of the Equality Act 2010
- Representing ECU on stakeholder forums and advisory groups and provide expert equality and diversity input
- Input as appropriate to the Athena SWAN Charter (a recognition scheme for science departments employing women)
We are looking for applicants with a first degree or equivalent and a
good knowledge of equality legislation and practice and related issues.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate experience of policy
analysis on equality and diversity issues at a strategic level within the HE sector, strong
communication skills and the ability to commission and manage external
consultants.
