Vacancy: Senior Policy Adviser: Religion and belief, sexual orientation

Leading on ECU's religion and belief and sexual orientation equality work

Salary: £36, 511 per annum

35 hours per week

Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) works to further and support equality and diversity for staff and students in higher education across all four nations of the UK, and in further education in Scotland.

We wish to appoint two Senior Policy Advisers, one to lead ECU's work on both religion and belief and sexual orientation equality, and one to provide fixed-term maternity cover on gender and gender identity equality. The appointed candidates will work within the Policy Team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic and operational leadership on sexual orientation projects and religion and belief initiatives, including consideration of the interplay between these characteristics
  • Working with the policy team on projects across different protected characteristics
  • Responding effectively and swiftly to internal and external enquiries from higher education institutions especially in relation to religion and belief and sexual orientation
  • Preparing and undertaking presentations and facilitating workshops within the higher education sector, and externally
  • Preparing policy papers, briefing notes, guidance and consultation responses and other documents
  • Representing ECU on stakeholder forums and advisory groups and provide expert equality and diversity input

We are looking for applicants with a first degree or equivalent and a good knowledge of equality legislation and practice and related issues. Applicants will be required to demonstrate experience of policy analysis on equality and diversity issues at a strategic level within the HE sector, strong communication skills and the ability to commission and manage external consultants.
