Broadening horizons: sexuality, equality and diversity
A discussion of the key topics of sexual orientation equalities work
In the UK, the field of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equalities work is currently undergoing a period of rapid change. Sexualities equalities work, which for many years has been marginalised, has now gained social and political currency and visibility, with greater inclusion of previously marginalised sexual and gender communities.
These developments are fuelled by the introduction of a range of new legislation as well as ongoing local government modernisation. The changes concerning LGBT equalities work are taking place in the context of a broader drive towards equality concerning age and faith, as well as areas of equalities work which are more established. The development of these different strands of work highlights tensions as well as areas of confluence.
This one-day conference is aimed at academics, practitioners, policy makers and activists and will provide space for discussion of topics of key importance for LGBT equalities work.
