Creating a fairer UK society: equality and diversity in the 21st century
Poignant equality and diversity issues, such as the launch of an independent review of fair pay in the public sector, will be addressed in this conference from Inside Government, with key discussions of main policy issues covered in the new coalistion programme.
This brand new and exciting forum will allow delegates to discuss how the new Equality Act will work in practice and how it will impact on organisations.
The format of the day will allow delegates to get to the heart of the equality agenda, examining questions such as:
- Has equality legislation gone far enough to tackle inequality and reduce discrimination?
- What more needs to be done to promote active citizenship?
- Are stronger measures needed to narrow the pay gap?
- What further measures are required to tackle gender discrimination?
- How will the introduction of a National Care Service help tackle inequality?
- Should the national retirement age be reviewed?
- Widening representation: should political parties do more to increase the diversity of MPs?
- What more can be done to promote the equal treatment of LGBT people in the public sector, including employment, housing, education, healthcare and legal services?
Speakers include:
- Baroness Gould of Potternewton, chair, Women's National Commission
- Dr Rob Berkeley, director, The Runnymede Trust
- James Wolfe, deputy director, stakeholder division, Office for Disability Issues
- Surinda Sharma, national director for equality and human rights, Department of Health
