Equality Act 2010 seminar: Glasgow
Free, practical sessions to prepare Scottish higher education institutions for the Equality Act
The Equality Act 2010 consolidates and streamlines current anti-discrimination legislation. It also introduces new measures that will have direct implications for higher education institutions.
ECU's free, practical seminars have been developed to prepare institutions for October when the main sections of the Act - relating to employment and education (further and higher) - are expected to come into effect. The programme has been tailored for equality and diversity practitioners, human resources, student services and those with responsibility for equality and diversity within higher education institutions.
Programme overview
The programme will provide an overview of the Equality Act 2010, including the current timescales the Scottish Parliament is working towards for the commencement of different provisions of the act, and the general implications for higher education institutions. Throughout the seminars delegates will be able to discuss best practice, what their institution is already doing in this area and how to develop appropriate responses to the new legislation.
There will be a particular focus on employment, service delivery and higher education as these provisions are currently due to commence in October 2010.
The Public Sector Duty is currently due to commence in April 2011, and the regulations relating to the specific duties have not been finalised. Therefore we will not be covering them in this session.
Your questions
ECU would like to invite delegates to email any specific questions they may have around the October provisions to us before the day. This will help to form some of the key discussions in the Your Questions section of the agenda.
