Equality Act: Meeting the specific duties (Leeds)

Practical seminars for staff working directly with the English specific duties

Equality Challenge Unit and the Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network are running four events across England to help equality and diversity practitioners and human resources staff to get to grips with the forthcoming specific duties for England.

Delegates will have the opportunity to gather information on the detail and scope of the new legislation (including timelines for implementation), and also participate in workshops providing practical detail on how institutions can take forward the work they are currently doing to meet the new public sector equality duty.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission will join ECU and HEEON for a question and answer session, where delegates will have an opportunity to ask questions about the new public sector equality duty and the specific duties that underpin it.

Who should attend?

These events will be limited to staff who will work directly with the English specific duties, for example equality and diversity practitioners and human resources staff.

Places are limited to a maximum of two delegates per institution.

The seminars will cover the following areas:

  • The public sector equality duty and its role in equalities legislation
  • Specific duties: a HEEON perspective
  • Workshop: Publishing equality information
