Working to promote equality for disabled staff (Taunton)
Opportunities for senior managers from the lifelong learning sector to come together to discuss issues related to the support and well being of disabled staff
Lifelong Learning UK is supported by the Disability Equality Implementation Group (of which ECU is a member) in developing its action plan building on the recommendations of the Report of the Commission for Disabled Staff in Lifelong Learning.
As part of this work, Lifelong Learning UK has commissioned Skill to run a series of seminars to provide the opportunity for senior staff to review their understanding of the issues and barriers for disabled staff and hear about good practice examples. Teachers, tutors and trainers will get the opportunity to develop their understanding to pass on guidance to staff and employers.
Topics covered
The topics covered will include staff development, inclusion and recruitment issues, for example:
- disclosure and confidentiality
- preventing discrimination
- legislation and legal requirements
- making reasonable adjustments in the workplace
- accessing support and information for disabled staff and managers
- staff development and recruitment issues.
- issues and practice around mental health

To ensure you receive details of the venue and dates for your area please complete the expression of interest form, available from the Skill website. The seminars will be interactive workshop sessions and therefore places will be limited to 20 individuals per seminar.
