HEEON conference: student attainment and ethnicity

Related subject:

One year on from the publication of the Equality Challenge Unit / Higher Education Academy report on student attainment and ethnicity, this Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network event will review progress made

In January 2008, ECU and the Higher Education Academy released a report on Ethnicity, gender and degree attainment

This Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network event aims to review the progress made since publication of the report and to identify and explore examples of innovative practice in higher education institutions to reduce the attainment gap.

By the end of the conference you will:

  • have an understanding of the key implications of the research undertaken to date on student attainment and ethnicity
  • be aware of the progress with national initiatives to address this issue
  • have an overview of examples of innovative practice from at least six other HEIs who are trying to address the attainment gap
  • have considered the relevance of all of the above for progress within your own institution.

ECU presentation

The conference will include a talk co-presented by Gary Loke, Senior Policy Adviser at ECU who leads on the current Ethnicity and degree attainment project, entitled 'Student attainment - the position in higher education one year on'.
