Promoting equality in pay

A practical seminar focusing on embedding equality and diversity into equal pay reviews

Aimed at equality and diversity specialists, as well as human resources departments, this practical seminar takes delegates through the process of equal pay reviews, focusing on how equality and diversity should be embedded into the process.

The seminar has been developed as a result of the findings of ECU's Equal Pay (Wales) project, originally designed to support higher education institutions (HEIs) in Wales to conduct equal pay reviews to inform their equality work - in particular their gender equality work. This session widens the scope of the original project, and will be of relevance to the UK higher education sector.

The seminar marks the launch of Promoting equality in pay: a practical guide to conducting equal pay reviews in HE, ECU's new guidance looking at equality issues in pay reviews in the HE context. This practical workbook will guide HEIs through the process of planning and conducting equal pay reviews, as well as assessing the impact of pay policies and practices on pay equality. The guidance is specifically designed for staff responsible for ensuring pay equality whether they have a background in equality and diversity or human resources.

Agenda

A mix of speakers, lessons from HEIs involved in the Equal Pay project and practical sessions.

The morning sessions will provide an overview of equality issues relating to pay, and introduce the findings of the Equal Pay project.

The afternoon session will be based around the new ECU guidance, and will take delegates through the process of an equal pay review, including looking at basic calculations.
