Promoting sexual orientation and gender identity equality in post school education

The Forum for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Post School Education (The Forum) is delighted to announce its first national conference.

With the introduction of equalities legislation the requirement for organisations to promote equality and eradicate discrimination is more prevalent than ever. In matters of sexual orientation and gender identity, how can organisations ensure that they offer the right support for employees and learners?

This free one-day conference, will look at current issues faced across the post school education sector and offer practical guidance and solutions for employers, employees and learners.

The programme will include an introduction to The Forum and its work to promote and support equality across the sector. Delegates will also have the opportunity to meet with colleagues and explore their experience and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality issues.

Delegates will:

  • Develop an understanding of The Forum and its work
  • Develop an understanding of LGBT issues across the sector, including transgender rights
  • Find out about existing support and resources
  • Explore and share good practice
  • Consider the development of future support

ECU workshop

The conference will include a session presented by Chris Hall on ECU's survey findings on the experiences of LGBT staff and students in higher education.
