The Big Picture is a high quality equalities campaign that researches and presents major current topics to learners using an informed, uncompromising and often striking set of resources. The intention of this project was to brand and disseminate the resources to the wider sector.
Every month a fresh set of resources are produced and displayed, which are concurrently replicated on the college virtual learning environment (VLE) and media.
The resource pack includes: five posters that are located in a prominent position, PDF versions uploaded to a VLE, an article for the student/staff newsletter, suggested questions and discussion topics. The pack provides the basis for tutorial discussions and apprentice reviews where stakeholders are able to raise questions, seek clarification and volunteer informed opinions. The imagery is deliberately intended to develop opinion and independent thought, and as such the campaign has been running for over two years winning praise from students, staff, local employers, parents, Skills Funding Agency and Ofsted.
The Big Picture has been published as a resource for other providers. This includes current source material in Adobe InDesign format that other providers can adapt with associated copyright agreement. This was disseminated via a specifically designed and commissioned website to which in-scope providers have access. As the college develops future resources they will be published on a dedicated web-based portal for real-time dissemination.
