Gender Equality Duty tools
Resources developed by ECU to assist higher education institutions in fulfilling their Gender Duty requirements
To determine the best way to support the higher education sector in meeting the Gender Equality Duty (GED), ECU surveyed higher education institutions (HEIs) in November 2006 and established a GED Advisory Group consisting of higher education equality and diversity practitioners and representatives from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the National Union of Students and Unison to discuss what support the sector needed.
Using the information obtained in response to the survey questionnaire and by consulting with the GED Advisory Group, ECU has developed a number of resources.
- Gender equality scheme: self assessment tool, which institutions can use to gauge the suitability of their Gender Equality Scheme and identify gaps. The former Equal Opportunities Commission (now EHRC) was consulted on its production.
- A tool to help institutions in determining Gender equality scheme: equality objectives for students.
- The Gender Equality Duty: briefing for heads of institutions on their responsibilities under the Gender Duty.
