Scottish government decides specific duties will not be passed in their current form

On Tuesday 8 March the Scottish parliament Equal Opportunities Committee decided that the Scottish specific duties would not be passed in their current form.

The committee decided that the duties would need to be redrafted to include further specific detail on equality impact assessments and engagement, and also to include a duty on procurement.

The new duties will then need to be put forward for consideration.

Equality Challenge Unit will be resubmitting our original consultation response to the committee. Among the points raised by ECU's response is the concern that students had not been explicitly covered under the information requirements of the proposed duties.

ECU will continue to keep the sector informed as further information is made available.
