Government responds to National Student Forum recommendations on improving the student experience

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has launched a response to the National Student Forum annual report 2009, highlighting the work going on in the HE sector to improve the students experience.

The National Student Forum made a number of recommendations to improve six key aspects of student life and concerns:

  • Teaching and learning
  • Employability
  • Postgraduate students
  • mature and part-time students
  • Disabled students
  • Accommodation

The response from BIS outlines the good practice that exists in the sector and the work being undertaken in these areas. The work ECU undertakes with HEIs to support disabled students is welcomed, along with ECU's role in supporting the sector on issues of employability and accommodation, as well as improving the disabled student experience.

The response calls upon staff in higher education to act upon the National Student Forum recommendations to improve student experiences at individual institution level, using the work of sector bodies signposted in the government response as resources and guidance.
