Version 3: 24.3.10
- The Welsh Liaison Group is made up primarily of equality and diversity officers from Welsh higher education institutions and others working within and with the Welsh higher education sector.
- The purpose of the group is:
- to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of those working in the field of equality and diversity within Welsh higher education institutions, by way of discussion and sharing of examples of inclusive practice; and presentations from external speakers
- to share information, views and resources on issues specific to equality and diversity in higher education in Wales, within a supportive setting in which attendees can also talk confidentially about the challenges and difficulties they have encountered in delivering equality work
- to represent a collective voice for equality and diversity practitioners in higher education institutions in Wales
- to develop projects, with the support of Equality Challenge Unit, that have particular relevance to equality and diversity in higher education in Wales
- to inform the work of Equality Challenge Unit, so as to ensure that Welsh considerations are properly embedded into its work
- to inform the work of HEFCW and, as appropriate, other audiences, such as the Welsh Assembly Government, in relation to equality and diversity in higher education in Wales
- The WLG will meet three to four times a year, in a Welsh higher education institution.
- Equality and Diversity practitioners from each Welsh higher education institution are encouraged to attend meetings, along with others whose work involves the promotion of equality and diversity within the institution. Ideally, attendees should be in a position to provide a brief update on key equality and diversity work delivered within their institution since the last meeting. Generally there will be no more than two people from each institution in attendance, though there may be occasions where the subject of discussion at the meeting leads to larger attendance. If a particular representative is unable to attend, they are welcome to nominate an appropriate colleague to attend in their place.
- As appropriate, the group may invite people from other organisations, such as the Welsh Assembly Government or equality bodies, to attend, either in an observer capacity or to provide a presentation. HEFCW attend the group as an observer.
- Equality Challenge Unit will provide the administrative and operational support for the meetings. The host institution for each meeting will, in general, provide note-taking support.
