Developing staff disclosure

A guide to collecting and using equality data

Equality data includes information about a member of staff's gender, ethnic origin, disability status, sexual orientation, religion or age.

This guide provides practical advice for higher education institutions on encouraging and enabling staff to disclose equality-related data, with information on using the data to promote equality and diversity within their institution.

Created as part of the Staff disclosure project, the guide also features case studies from institutions involved in piloting interventions to increase staff disclosure of equality information.

Contents include:

  • The case for collecting data from staff
  • Encouraging and enabling staff disclosure
  • Planning how to use the data
  • HEI case studies

Additional resources

The institutions developed a range of documents and publications during the pilots which may be of use to other institutions looking to improve levels of disclosure or support for staff.
