Disclosure and support issues for disabled staff in higher education: Survey findings 2007

Summarising the results of a survey into disclosure and support issues for disabled staff working as lecturers in higher education

Findings of a survey into support received by disabled staff, barriers they experienced, and their decision as to whether or not to disclose their disability status. The findings include:

  • issues around disclosure
  • working at multiple locations
  • part-time and home working
  • barriers and reasonable adjustments
  • suggested interventions

The survey forms part of a wider ECU project examining the factors affecting the low disclosure of disability status among staff in higher education.

The report of the wider project, Disclosure and support issues for disabled staff in higher education: Report 2008, draws on the findings of the survey reported here, in addition to information about current practices gathered from equality and diversity specialists and human resources managers in a number of higher education institutions.
