What's the difference between the RRA 1976 and the Amendment Act 2000?

Related subject: | |

What is the difference between the requirements on institutions of the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000?

The Race Relations Act 1976 still has the same statutory requirements on institutions as it has had since its enactment by Parliament in 1976.

The only difference with the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (RRAA) is that, due to the Macpherson Report on the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry in 1999, Section 71 (1) of the Race Relations Act 1976 has been amended to ensure institutions function to promote race equality by implementing the RRAA General Duty requirements, through the incorporation of the appropriate Specific Duties into all their race equality-relevant functions.

The RRAA will also incorporate the provisions of the EU Race Directive.
