What is the Heyday case?
In July 2006 Heyday, the membership arm of Age Concern, applied for a judicial review of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006, challenging the government's decision to permit mandatory retirement ages.
The Heyday case argues that allowing employers to retire staff at or after 65 without compensation breaches the EU Equal Treatment Directive by discriminating on the grounds of age.
