Increasing diversity: recruiting students from underrepresented groups
12 initiatives selected to work on addressing underrepresentation in student admissions
ECU received a range of high quality applications to our new Increasing diversity: recruiting students from underrepresented groups project, covering a range of equality issues from institutions across the sector.
We selected 12 institutions which will be looking at addressing underrepresentation across a range of subjects including healthcare, education, media and museum studies; exploring and developing links with schools, colleges and employers from within and outside their region.
The following institutions will be taking on supported work:
- Cardiff University
- Liverpool Hope University
- Liverpool John Moores University
- Oxford Brookes University
- Sheffield Hallam University
- University of Central Lancashire
- University of Chester
- University of Derby
- University of Gloucestershire
- University of Leicester
- University of Sheffield
- University of St Mark and St John
Projects will consider elements of the student journey, including pre-application and the learning environment, and will work with potential and existing students to develop robust evidence of what issues are and how to address them.
ECU will be meeting with institutions in the coming months to support them develop their evidence base and action plans. We will be sharing research findings, as well as challenges and successes associated with the initiatives throughout the lifetimes of the projects. This will take the form of blogs, opinion pieces, and discussion webinars which we hope will be of use to all institution undertaking work in this area.
