ECU’s comment on the review of the higher education sector agencies
ECU's comment on the Bell review of higher education sector agencies.
A Universities UK (UUK) and GuildHE review of the higher education sector agencies has been ongoing in 2016. The review led by Sir David Bell, vice chancellor of Reading University, will be publishing its recommendations at the end of January 2017.
Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) is one of the sector agencies under review, and it is likely that the recommendations will include ECU merging with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and the Higher Education Academy into a new agency that will focus on enhancing organisational effectiveness by helping institutions to address strategic challenges as they relate to equality and diversity, leadership and governance, and teaching and learning. Within this new organisation, it is likely that ECU will retain its identity and focus.
The final recommendations and timetable for any changes have not yet been published and we will work closely with the other sector agencies to ensure a smooth transition, which we believe will take well over a year. In the transition period, we will continue to offer our members the same range and high-level of service they have received from us.
