Equalitylink is Equality Challenge Unit’s monthly round-up of equality and diversity news, resources and a summary of ECU’s work with the sector.
At ECU we have been following the development of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) closely. Throughout 2017 we have published a series of blog posts and a briefing on the topic.
Now that the results are out ECU’s Senior Policy Adviser, Jess Moody, asks whether an opportunity for progress on equality had been missed?
New HEFCE catalyst fund
HEFCE has launched a catalyst call for HEFCE-funded higher education institutions and further education colleges to submit proposals for projects on student safeguarding in relation to tackling hate crime and online harassment on campus.
The deadline is noon on Monday 31 July 2017 and more information is available on the HEFCE website.
Universities UK briefing on the implementation of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017

New Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) data published by the Department of Education
The data is online now.

Call for case studies on intersectionality equality and diversity work
We are looking to the sector for intersectionality case studies to inform a new piece of ECU guidance.
The call is open to universities and research institutes across all four nations of the UK, and colleges in Scotland. The provisional submission deadline is Thursday 27 July at 5pm.

Improving the experiences of trans staff and students
This week our Policy Programme Manager, Ellen Pugh, hosted two webinars on improving the experiences of trans staff and students.
We hope that everyone in attendance enjoyed the webinars and ECU’s revised guidance on this topic is available to download now.
ECU annual conference 2017
ECU’s conference theme for 2017 is inclusivity, intersectionality, action: moving forward the equality agenda in higher education.
It will be held on Tuesday 7 November and Wednesday 8 November 2017 in Birmingham.
Registration will be launching in early July so stay tuned for more information.
Diversity in governance launch event
Wednesday 13 September 2017 1pm – 4.30pm in Glasgow
ECU is hosting a series of training days and events for higher education institutions and college governing bodies and related staff. This training programme will run in 2017/18, building on ECU’s previous research and publications.
