An introduction to gender equality in higher education
Audience
This session is designed for universities (or departments or teams within universities) that wish to better understand the gender equality challenges that continue to exist within higher education in the UK for both staff and students.
This session may be particularly valuable for universities and departments that intend to engage with Athena SWAN Charter, or at the early stages of their work on Athena SWAN. The facilitator will create a space in which participants can ask questions and explore challenging issues in relation to gender equality
On the day
The workshop will specifically cover:
- the gender equality challenges in UK higher education for both staff and students
- an exploration of gender bias, including unconscious bias
- why gender equality is important: what are the key drivers for universities?
- how can your institution take a strategic approach to gender equality: an introduction to ECU’s Athena SWAN Charter.
We would recommend a half day for the session, but it can be adapted to suit your timings.
The session can be attended by up to 25 participants.
